White Balloon Day

White Balloon Day is a light, cheerful, funny holiday celebrated annually on September 10th. The holiday coincides with National Children’s Week. The initiator of the event is the non-profit organization Bravehearts. Representatives of the organization make every effort to create a safe and happy environment for children. The work is carried out, first of all, with parents. They are told how to be vigilant and protect the child. White Balloon Day is celebrated in educational institutions, companies and organizations, as well as at home.

History

The first celebration was symbolic and aimed at combating child sexual abuse. It was held in Belgium in 1996. About 300 thousand people gathered with white balloons and expressed solidarity and support to parents whose children had experienced abuse. People protested against the release from prison of a man convicted of sexual violence. In 1997, White Balloon Day acquired official status.
