Pentecost is the main Christian Church holiday and occurs on the 50th day after Easter. This is a big holiday, on which it is not customary to do housework, but to glorify Jesus Christ, pray, and christen children.
It is believed that Pentecost started as a Jewish holiday, celebrated in honor of the harvest. Then other denominations began to celebrate it, still as a harvest festival. But today it is the day of the Holy Spirit. It is believed that Jesus Christ, after his crucifixion and ascension into heaven, again appeared to the apostles and disciples. This holiday is often chosen for christening children. People believe that on this holiday, the Holy Spirit blesses believers and protects them.
The key symbol of Pentecost is the white dove. It symbolizes the Holy Spirit. It often appears on greeting cards. Sometimes water and fire are depicted. On Pentecost, churches hold services glorifying the Holy Spirit. Small children are often christened on this day. Adults also prefer Pentecost for their own christening if they were not christened in childhood. Believers go to church, sing songs, pray, and light candles. It is also customary to bake pies and treat relatives and strangers.
