The History

Popular holiday has global significance for world Christian Diaspora. Name originated from ancient Hebrew word «pesach», Exodus. Moses gathered Jewish people suffered for years from slavery of Egyptian pharaohs, led his minions through desert to Sacred Mount Sinai, difficult journey fraught with hardship, suffering. Faith gave people strength. They were free people subsequently acquired Truth, sacred Knowledge. It was holiday Jesus Christ celebrated at Last Supper on eve of his own crucifixion.

How to Celebrate

Prepare matzah, unleavened flatbread. Its national dish of Jews: water, oil, salt and flour without additives, spices. It’s a symbol: Jews left Egyptian land; cereals did not have time to rise.

  1. Bitter herbs are used in food, symbolized bitterness Jews had to experience, escaping from slavery in name of gaining freedom, own Promised Land.
  2. Read the Bible, the Old Testament, described in detail Exodus took place.
  3. Do thorough cleaning of house. Dwelling should be clean, bright on holy holiday. Wipe dust, wash floors and remove dirt from hard-to-reach corners of perimeter.
  4. On table — lamb, chicken, cinnamon, honey, apples, wine. Drink should be sweet. Drink 4 glasses.

Jews have interesting tradition. Children retell Exodus story, adults give treats, sweets. Traditions and continuity are preserved.
