People who regret not traveling much have a chance to fix this on May 27, National Road Trip Day. Options abound: visit monuments, parks and places from your childhood, take a trip to the coast to breathe in fresh sea air, or go to a mountainous area to enjoy the solitude.

The History

This holiday appeared on the calendar in 2019 thanks an American tour operator from Pilot Flying J. It is timed to coincide with the start of summer. The history of this holiday refers to the middle of the XIX century: wagons of immigrants traveled around states, exploring new lands in search of suitable place to settle and prosper. 1903 saw the first automobile journey. A grandiose route from the west coast to the east lasted 63 days.

How to take part

Start with careful planning. Decide on a route, make a list of everything needed so nothing overshadows the trip, even if it is spontaneous.

  1. Install an app on your smart phone with a map and geo-location.
  2. Create a playlist. Good music on the road matters, and eliminates the need to switch between radio stations and getting distracted.
  3. Put light snacks in a basket: sandwiches, salad, and cookies are useful for a quick meal on the road when you stop to take in the picturesque view.

Each trip becomes memorable, heals the soul, promises new acquaintances and helps one to put everything in perspective.
