National Pralines Day
June 24, 2022
National Pralines Day is an extremely sweet holiday dedicated to the well-known and popular dessert, consisting of nuts (hazelnuts, almonds, pecans, hazelnuts) and sugar. The most popular are pralines from 3 countries, and they are completely different!
Belgian has a hard chocolate shell and a soft filling. French has a mix of almonds with caramelized sugar. American ones are made with cream or milk, are softer than others and have a fudge-like texture, and have a pecan or hazelnut inside. On National Pralines Day, you can try all three!
Praline is the invention of a chef who served the Comte du Plessis-Pralain, the French ambassador to the Spanish Netherlands. The first version of the dessert, made in 1671, consisted of grated nuts (almonds and others), mixed with pieces of chocolate mass and candied honey and covered with burned sugar.
If you order pralines while traveling in Poland or the Czech Republic, you will get a thin and large waffle soaked in sweet syrup. In these countries, it is called praline.
How to take part
It is nice to celebrate National Pralines Day.
- Make your own pralines with your favorite ingredients. On the Internet, you will find many recipes and videos. They will help you master this culinary exercise. Maybe not everything will turn out perfect, but it will be tasty and interesting!
- Invite family or friends to a homemade praline party. Let them try it too! Be sure to take pictures of your creations and congratulate people on social networks on this holiday by posting photos.
- Go to New Orleans. Take a walking tour of the French Quarter and you will learn the full history of pralines in the USA. Here they began to make them not with almonds, but with pecans. Taste pralines from their American second home and be sure to buy them in New Orleans to please your family.
