National Prairie Day

National Prairie Day is an American holiday dedicated to the prairie. These are unique ecosystems characteristic of the North American continent. They are essentially open areas with a high proportion of herbaceous plants and almost no trees. The prairie has long been an important area for farming and ranching. The holiday is celebrated annually on the first Saturday in June.

History

The history of National Prairie Day begins in 2016, when the holiday was established by the Missouri Prairie Foundation. The purpose of the celebration is to spread awareness of the features and importance of the prairie, and to promote the conservation and restoration of rangelands.
