National Cheese Toast Day

National Cheese Toast Day is dedicated to cheese toast, celebrated annually on September 15th. The easy-to-make and delicious snack first appeared in California and then spread around the world. Start your day with some of cheese toast and hot tea or coffee. What could be better?

History

The history of National Cheese Toast Day began in the second half of the 20th century. Cheese toast is made with just two ingredients: toasted slices of bread and fresh cheese. It was invented by the founder of the Sizzler restaurant in 1958. Shortly thereafter, cheese toast became very popular with visitors to the establishment. Over time, various options for snacks appeared: wheat bread, rye bread, and French buns.

Every year the recipe is improved, with new ingredients added. Cheese toast can be consumed both separately and together with other dishes: soup, salad, of fried meat. In 2015, to commemorate the cheese toast that made the restaurant a success, Sizzler USA created a special day for the dish.
