Drive-in Movie Day is a celebration for everyone who loves to watch movies. Once upon a time, a car cinema was created for an elderly lady, so that it would be convenient and pleasant for her to watch a movie in the fresh air. But later it became a favorite among Americans of all ages.
This holiday began in the 1930s. An American, Richard M. Hollingshead, organized an open-air cinema for his mother. It was hard for her to visit a regular cinema, and spending every evening at home watching TV was a little too boring. The man installed a projector in his car, and she enjoyed the movie sitting outside. Later, other people joined the elderly lady, who also enjoyed watching a movie on the big screen outside.
In 1932, Richard M. Hollingshead patented the drive-in cinema. He used the same projector and arranged 400 car parks where families or groups could enjoy a movie. The first movie shown in the drive-in theater was the popular comedy Wife Beware. Americans are very fond of cinema, and this viewing format gave them great pleasure. Then, new drive-in cinemas soon opened and Drive-in Movie Day was created. June 6 was chosen in honor of the first drive-in cinema. Due to the popularity of VCRs, home theaters, drive-ins have lost their appeal and relevance. But it does not prevent moviegoers from celebrating.
How to take part
