World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is a worldwide holiday dedicated to promoting cultural diversity and eliminating misunderstandings between people of different cultures. Our society must be united. Its value is in diversity, which needs to be upheld. It is celebrated annually on May 21.

History

The history of the holiday begins in 2002, when the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution to establish this day. According to this organization, almost 70 percent of conflicts in the world are based on culture, when representatives of one culture refuse to accept the features of another culture that contradict their principles and foundations, resulting in conflicts that go up to the military form. For this reason, the establishment of a holiday aimed at uniting all cultures is an important goal of our society.

In addition, the holiday will contribute to the preservation of cultures. Many of them simply disappear, as assimilation of peoples takes place, when the so-called “absorption” of one nation by another takes place. Existing indigenous traditions are lost, merged or replaced by others.
