National Beer Day

National Beer Day is an annual American holiday dedicated to beer. This drink, made with the use of fermentation technology, is one of the most popular throughout the world. The abundance of its varieties allows everyone to find their own variant! The holiday is celebrated on April 7. But do not forget that beer, like any other alcohol, should be consumed responsibly, without driving your body to the stage of heavy intoxication!

History

The National Beer Day celebration commemorates an event that took place on April 7, 1933. Then the U.S. authorities signed the Cullen-Harrison Act, which repealed the previous ban on the sale of beer in the country. Since then, many breweries in all states stepped up and huge volumes of beer products for all tastes began to arrive on store shelves! A big beer lover – a guy named D. Smith, who lives in Virginia – decided to create the holiday in 2009.

Beer is one of the oldest drinks. Researchers claim that it began to be brewed more than 9 thousand years ago! Beer was described in written sources in Mesopotamia, and in Egypt it was an important element in various religious ceremonies.

The active growth of beer production began in the Middle Ages in Europe. The best examples were produced in monastic breweries. Some modern breweries still produce beer according to old traditional monastic recipes, as the producers themselves claim. Many of them have been adapted to use modern equipment. Beer came to the United States during the Age of Discovery, as did many other products.

Interesting facts

  • Over 35 billion gallons of beer are produced worldwide each year.
  • During the Middle Ages, beer became a common drink. It was much safer to drink than water, since most of it was dirty and unsafe to drink (bacteria, microorganisms, etc.).
  • The average alcohol content of beer is in the range 4-7%, but there are stronger beers (porter, for example), where the strength can be as much as 12%!

How to celebrate

Celebrate the day with a glass of your favorite beer. Try new brews that you are not familiar with. Choose between stout, porter, IPA, German Weitbier and Schwarzbier and many others. Learn the specifics of brewing techniques (lagers and ales).

Spread the word about the holiday on social media. Ask users what kind of beer they like best?
